Why Are Sparks Dangerous in Oil Refineries?

Oil refineries process materials such as crude oil, gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products. Many of these substances are highly flammable.

During maintenance work, traditional steel tools may generate mechanical sparks when:

· Striking metal surfaces

· Dropping tools accidentally

· Tightening or loosening metal components

· Creating friction between tool and equipment

Although not every spark will cause an accident, even a small ignition source can become dangerous when flammable gases or vapors are present.

This is why many refinery operators require non-sparking tools in specific hazardous areas.
